challenge

Tomorrow (Monday, Jan 26) is now a VIRTUAL LEARNING DAY! No buses, no car line, and yes… pajama dress code is fully approved.
Students should work on the remote learning packets that were sent home last week. Time to grab those pencils, find a cozy spot, and show that panther pride from home. 🐾📚

👉 Need another copy of the packet? Digital grade-level packets can be found here:
https://abingdon.gc.k12.va.us/o/abi-es/page/remote-learning

Parents, this is your official reminder that the packet is in a very safe place that no one remembers putting it in. Good luck on the scavenger hunt. 😂
Stay warm and safe, everyone!

Hey Abingdon Families,

Our amazing SCA is kicking off a Food Drive to support Abingdon families in need during these uncertain times. Their goal is simple but powerful: neighbors helping neighbors. 💙💛

Starting Monday, November 3rd, we’ll begin collecting food donations each morning from 9:00–9:15 AM in the front commons. We’ll be accepting both perishable and non-perishable items, so any contribution helps!

If you’d rather donate financially, monetary donations are also welcome, and every penny collected goes straight to Abingdon families in need. 💛

Here are a few ideas of what you can donate:

🥫 Canned fruits, veggies, soups, and beans

🍝 Pasta, rice, instant potatoes, and boxed meals

🍞 Bread, rolls, and baked goods

🧈 Fresh produce, milk, eggs, and other perishables

🧃 Juice boxes, snacks, and breakfast items

🧻 Paper towels, toiletries, and hygiene products

💡 Helpful Idea:
Consider shopping for a meal for four to make a complete family dinner kit!
For example:
1 lb ground beef • 1 jar spaghetti sauce • 1 box noodles • 1 can of green beans • 1 loaf of bread

Thoughtful donations like these can go a long way toward easing the burden for a local family.

💎 Gem House Challenge!
We’ll be tracking contributions by Gem House, and the House with the most donations will earn a special reward! Let’s see which Gem House will shine the brightest while helping our community! ✨

🗓️ Distribution information will be shared soon, so families in need of assistance will know how to receive items as the drive concludes.

Let’s come together as one big Panther family to make a difference, one can (or coin) at a time!

Thanks for always showing that Abingdon heart. Neighbors helping neighbors truly is what it’s all about. 💙

Today, we stand together for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion as we celebrate Unity Day, the signature event of National Bullying Prevention Month. 💪

Started by PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center, Unity Day is all about coming together as a community to show that every student deserves to feel safe, valued, and included.

The message is simple — wear and share orange 🧡 to show your support for bullying prevention and to spread the power of unity across our schools and community.

Together, we can make a difference — one act of kindness at a time. 💛

It's the last day of National School Lunch Week, and while we're "Tasting the World," we've got to pay homage to our very own home-grown delicacies. Today is All American Day! 🦅

Students will probably feel right at home choosing a bacon cheeseburger, a hot dog, or a salad. It's also the last day for them to get their passports stamped for the weekly challenge. Those can be turned in for an entry to win a prize, so make sure they don't forget to do so!

Students, break out the chopsticks for this next foray in our "Taste the World" celebration of National School Lunch Week!

Some of the most delicious dishes in the world hail from China, and today, we're giving students the option to try some fried rice on their lunch trays. Add an orange and some edamame for a nutritionally (and culturally) balanced meal! (Sorry, no dumplings today!)🍜 We're having such a wonderful time, celebrating new flavors with our students this week.

For today's #NationalSchoolLunchWeek adventure, tell your student to be on the lookout for Italian options in the school cafeteria 🍝

Our elementary schoolers will be treated to cheesy Italian rice and meatballs, while our middle school students can look forward to a chicken spinach alfredo bake 😋 Take it from us: our cafeteria teams have really outdone themselves, today. Pair these with some grapes and a side salad for the ultimate Italian experience!

We're back for the kickoff of #NationalSchoolLunchWeek 👨‍🍳 and today, we're taking our students on a culinary trip down to Mexico! 🌮

If you've got an Elementary or Middle schooler, they can look forward to a Mexican Street Cart Taco on the menu this morning, which pairs nicely with our Fiesta black beans 🫘

Remind your kiddos to pick up a passport and get it stamped in the lunch line! If they do this on each day of our Lunch Week celebration, they can be entered in a prize drawing on Friday.

Dear GCPS Families and Staff, Our road assessment team has determined that several areas of Gloucester County are inaccessible this morning due to flooding. The king tides and nor’easter have exceeded predictions, resulting in higher-than-expected water levels across the county. Because of these conditions, Gloucester County Public Schools will be closed today (Monday, October 13th). Afternoon tides are expected to be higher than this morning, and our teams will continue to monitor reports and road conditions throughout the day. Thank you for your continued patience and understanding as we respond to these changing conditions.

Families, pack your bags for an around-the-world adventure that starts right in our school cafeterias! 🚋

From October 13-17, we're celebrating #NationalSchoolLunchWeek with the theme "Taste the World." Nutritious school meals are a labor of love, and when we all work together, they contribute to the health, well-being and academic success of our students.

Let's talk a bit about how it'll work. Next week, we've got an international theme that encourages kids to try out new flavors! We've made "passports" for our students, which they can pick up in their cafeteria. If they go through the lunch line and get their passport stamped each day, they can turn it in Friday to be entered in a prize drawing 🌎

We're excited to get cooking 🍳 See you at lunch, GCPS family!
