Dear Gloucester County Public School Community,

I am following up on the message to parents regarding Peasley Middle School sent to our community Friday evening. As I shared at that time, our school division, in collaboration with the Gloucester County Sheriff's Office, is actively investigating the threatening, racist message found in the school bathroom.

The safety and well-being of our students and staff are paramount. A faculty meeting is scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday, January 23, 2024, to reinforce our commitment to inclusivity and student supervision expectations and to review applicable policies. Students return to school on Wednesday, January 24, and school administrators will hold assemblies to reaffirm our commitment to inclusivity, reset expectations, and compliance with federal, state, and local policies and laws. As part of the process, school counselors and psychologists will be on hand to provide appropriate support. We have also partnered with Care Solace to offer additional counseling services to students and implemented the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for our staff members.

Increased student supervision measures are being implemented, and we urge everyone to maintain an environment of vigilance – if you see or hear something, say something. The community's support is crucial throughout this process. We understand the emotional impact of this situation, and our counselors are available to provide support.

Regular updates will be shared to keep you informed about the ongoing investigation. Thank you for your understanding and collaboration as we foster a safe, inclusive, supportive educational environment.

Sincerely,
Dr. Anthony Vladu
Division Superintendent
