Gloucester County Public Schools Names New Superintendent


Gloucester, VA – Dr. Anthony Vladu has been appointed as the new superintendent of Gloucester County Public Schools. He will assume his new position on August 1, 2023.

Dr. Vladu is currently serving as the Assistant Superintendent and Chief Human Resource Officer for York County Public Schools. With over 23 years of experience in the field of education, he has held several positions including Director of Secondary Instruction, Principal, Assistant Principal, and Teacher. Dr. Vladu also has served as a Senior Special Forces Engineer Sergeant (Green Beret) in the United States Army.

"I am humbled and grateful for the opportunity to lead in the Gloucester County Public Schools community," stated Dr. Vladu. "I thank the School Board for their support and confidence as we continue to serve the needs of Gloucester students, parents, teachers, and staff. I look forward to meeting the outstanding GCPS educators as we strive to deliver greater levels of achievement, school safety, service to our community, and employee working conditions."

Troy Andersen, chair of the Gloucester County School Board, believes that Dr. Vladu is an excellent fit for the division. "We are excited to have the opportunity to welcome Dr. Vladu and his family to Gloucester County Public Schools. His background, knowledge, skills and abilities will allow him to guide this division forward while capitalizing on the great strides we have made over the last few years. We are confident that his future vision for our system is in sync with the feedback that we received from the community during the early stages of the search process.”

Dr. Vladu holds a Doctor of Education in Education Policy, Planning, and Leadership from the College of William and Mary, a Master of Education from the College of William and Mary, a Master of Arts in Teaching Social Studies from the State University of New York, and a Bachelor of Arts in History from the State University of New York.

The Virginia School Boards Association assisted the school board with the superintendent search process.
